Should I go back to twitterland?

Jim asks the question. He says:
"I want to go back to Twitter, and if I do, I’ll just talk to myself and not listen to anyone else? Seems… wrong?"

Twitter now officially part of the live web

Evan William, The Economist and Google

Evan Williams, fonder of twitter, wrote on his site:

"There's a story about me in The Economist, which is very flattering.

It has a couple misleading points, though, which I feel the need to clarify. Mostly about Google: I didn't "hate every minute" I was at Google (just some of them). I wasn't there "less than a year." (It was a year and eight months). I don't think Google tackles problems with "brute force." I think they're best at tackling known problems, but they do so very cleverly."

How to be ‘popular’ on Twitter

Jeremiah explains how to become popular en twitter

1) Figure out why you want to use this tool. Is there a reason, an objective?

2) Integrate it throughout your online experience. You’ll notice that I ask people to add me from various posts, have it listed in my side role and on my facebook account.

3) Add people back. I follow everyone that follows me, I’m following more people than are following me, and that’s a sign that you want to listen to what others have to say.

4) Add value when you tweet. I’ve given up on my google reader link blog, instead, I leave links to what I think is interesting during the day.

5) Ask questions. I didn’t realize this was going to be one of the largest attributes on tweeterboard, so I got lucky.

Twitter tracking

Twitter blog explains the tracking twitter:

track NYC

When someone (anyone who updates in public) mentions "NYC," you'll get it on your device in real-time. From there you can send "whois username" to find out more about that person, or "follow username" to follow his or her updates. Don't want to receive anymore about NYC? Toggle it off with:

untrack NYC

You can create as many of these as you want, so send "track drinking tea", "track iphone", "track walking san francisco" and you'll receive matches for all. Want to get a list of what you're currently tracking? Send "track" alone (or "stats"). Turn them all off by sending "track off".

Twitter was down for 6 days in 2007

(RWW)
According to Royal Pingdom, Twitter was down for almost 6 days (5 days and 23 hours to be exact) in 2007. For any other company, this might spell doom, but not our LittleCo of the year! If anything, the service has gotten more popular in spite of the frequent down time. Those with "Twitterdiction" may have suffered through some nasty withdrawal when Twitter went offline for extended periods of time, but abandon the service they did not.

Newbies Guide to Twitter

An interesting guide, very complete, by Chris Brogan.

One Laptop per Child on Twitter

"The idea is every tweet with the word 'olpc' raises a euro. With the script up and running the first laptop had been bought within an hour! The original plan was to leave it at that, but it is so successful they keep going and by midnight (twelve hours later) 1463.50 euros has been collected. Three laptops were donated via other sources. In the end 2883.50 euros were collected, good for 21 laptops."

Twitter: the good use of it

Twitter can be usefull if you don't use it too much. Too much twit is boring. Too little is not good either.

It comes down to not posting too often and not posting stuff that’s not interesting to others. Posting things like, “Going to the bathroom again.”, or “Heading home from work.” is likely to make people stop following your account — or even unsubscribe from Twitter altogether.
(from Dmiessler)

Richard MacManus (RWW) is twitter addict

"I'm a Twitter addict now (username is rww) and I've started to experiment using Tumblr as a personal blog."

He considere twitter one of the most interesting web apps of the year.

Twitter, one of the 6 most promising start-ups, according to the Guardian

For The Guardian, twitter is of the six most promising firm of the Internet.

"Twitter is about the intimacy of details," said author David Weinberger. "Through it I see small events in the lives of friends about whom I otherwise might only learn the big events when we catch up after long intervals."

Crucially, it has also been picked up by businesses as an easy way to push messages out to their customers.

Co-founder Ev Williams helped popularise blogging with Blogger.com before selling it to Google in 2002.

Microbbloging (= twitter) is one of the Trends of 2007

Steve Rubel noticed 3 trends on the Internet in 2007.

One of them is microblogging. Microblogging is twitter. Twitter is THE name you mention about microblogging.

Twitter occured more often than blogging on Google trends .
"What's fascinating here is that searches for Twitter surpassed for "blogging" in April and never looked back. Meanwhile, news volume for the two are neck and neck. Twitter is particularly strong in Japan. That said, interest in micro blogging has dropped off dramatically this (nearly 50% off their peak in the spring)." (Steve Rubel)

We can ask the question: is there money to make on blogging?
Microblogging is done for speacking with others, being linked with them. Only for pleasure?
